I just came across a link for help with papers. We all know the massive amount of writing in any graduate course and anything that helps you become a better writer helpful. I'm copying this info from the course content area of my OMDE601 course:
"Paper Rater (http://www.paperrater.com/) is a free website that allows you to submit your work for an immediate check of vocabulary, grammar, spelling, style, and word choice. You also get readability statistics, title validation, plagiarism detection, a vocabulary-building tool, and a grade based on these elements. What more could you ask for?"
Awesome.

This article provided some information in an area close to my heart-special education. I'm sure there are more but a visiting professor in my OMDE601 class, Uli Bernath, directed us to this information so I share it here: Distance Education for People with Visual Impairments, http://www.eurodl.org/?p=current&article=671.
Distance Education can be inclusive and accommodate students with many different impairments and abilities.

While this book isn't specifically about distance education, there is much to enjoy in there: Teaching Naked by José Antonio Bowen. Check out the blog and the website: http://teachingnaked.com/. Dr. Bowen is the President of Goucher College.

A classmate in my OMDE 610 course shared a video which makes so much sense. I watched it because she shared it, but soon found myself loving what he was saying. The speaker is Dr. Punya Mishra, Director of MA Educational Technology at Michigan State University. The video states that he is "Rated as one of the ten most influential people in educational technology in the United States." Watch the video-it's inspirational!

Our Writing Coach for OMDE 610, Lealan Zaccone, posted the following information and to quote her, "There's an App for that." It turns out that the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) provides a list of apps for online teaching and learning support. For those of us who are new to the education field it is a great resource. Check it out: https://www.usdla.org/blog/2015/09/25/mobile-apps-to-support-and-enhance-online-courses/ 11/8/15
With the focus on Connectivism and technology, this is a good article looking at how technology and the digital revolution is already at work in higher education: https://medium.com/@cshirky/the-digital-revolution-in-higher-education-has-already-happened-no-one-noticed-78ec0fec16c7 11/15/15
I came across this article about distance education and students with visual impairments; where there is a will, there is a way: http://www.eurodl.org/?p=current&article=671 "The goal of the present research is to define the standards of higher education for people with a visual impairment, so that education becomes fully accessible and contributes to the limitation of social exclusion." The reality is far from perfect, but that is an admirable goal. 11/22/15
Our writing coach in OMDE 610 has provided another article which is helpful to those of us taking grad courses, but research is something we all do in every area of our lives. The article breaks down good academic research, but the tips can also be applied to research in a professional (non-academic) setting: 30 Tips on Successful Academic Research and Writing- http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2012/11/28/lupton-30-tips-writing/ |

A classmate shared a link in our OMDE610 class which is from a website for students with learning disabilities: http://webaim.org/simulations/ Apparently it is an old site, but worth a look anyway. 11/14/15
I wanted to share this article in the Smithsonian magazine since we have been discussing the role of technology in education and future waves. This article made me wonder if our reading and learning materials in the future will work in an interactive manner based on our facial expressions as we read. Since much of what we read is either on tablets, laptops or mobile devices, this idea is not so far-fetched. Could it be that course content will provide the analytics to determine what stays in the course and what goes based on student interaction as they read? While a bit too AI and "Big Brother" for me, it is a fascinating development. article: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/innovation/rana-el-kaliouby-ingenuity-awards-technology-180957204/?utm_source=smithsoniantopic&no-ist 11/19/15
I wrote about this article in the Journal section, but wanted to share this here for my fellow adult students: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/07/your-money/after-years-out-of-a-job-older-workers-find-a-way-back-in.html?_r=1 11/30/15
A good resource for " teacher-educators, new teachers, and anyone in the education profession who is interested in our best scientific understanding of how learning takes place." Nice quick-link for information: http://www.deansforimpact.org/pdfs/The_Science_of_Learning.pdf. |
